Néville Headland

The geographical zone shows Neville Point to the north. In the south, the limit is the wet zone near Hommets village. The striking element of the landscape is the blockhouse from the Second World War.

A comparison of aerial photos between 1920 and 1947 allows us to see the appearance of German blockhouses.

But above all, it allows us to see this anthropogenic development as a marker of how the area changed. In fact, we can see that only the west coast of Neville Point seemed to have vegetation in the 1920s, whereas from 1947 onwards, we notice a progressive growth of dune vegetation on the east coast. This remains up to and including the years 2000.

Then it seems that over the last 10 years the erosion process has accelerated. The phenomenon identified on the ground is now very rapid as from one week to the next we see that several metres can disappear.
