Mondrée beach

The geographical zone stretches from the village of Le Tot de Haut in the southwest, to Mondrée beach in the north. The D116 is the road that circles round to the east and can serve as a reference point. We can see the presence of marshes in position behind the shoreline (These have been dried out for a long time).

The dune on Mondrée beach seems to have shrunk in width. Also, an interesting fact: it has been “nibbled” from both sides. On the sea side, because of natural erosion and, on the land side, probably because of man’s actions.

We can see also that between 1955 and 1965, the mouth of the “tidal flood gate stream” seems to have changed its behaviour as it flows directly into the sea over the beach (it’s possible that the structure had been removed at that particular moment). From 1977, we can see that the mouth has returned to its original state (that is that the stream once again flows under the dune). Even the vegetation has grown back.

Also, in the same way as at Vrasville, we can see in 1965 traces of what may have been at that time a submersion of the dune cordon by the sea.
