Looking to the future

Water level measure showing current levels to be 3 metresOur coastline and our relationship with the sea have changed continuously over time and will continue to do so.  Future change will be driven particularly by rising sea levels and the effects of a changing climate.  Our response to the changes will be a mixture of protection and adaptation as appropriate for the individual characteristics of each part of the coastline.  This section looks in more detail at some particular aspects of future coastal change, revealing both opportunities and threats that will arise.
